Bambu P1S Maintenance Checklist for Print Farms
The Bambu P1S is fast and reliable, but keeping dozens of them running in sync takes a disciplined maintenance loop. At JCSFY we operate a Large-Scale Production 3D Print Farm, so every task below is aimed at consistency across a fleet, not one-off fixes.
Daily and Shift Tasks
- Clean build plates with soap and water. Warm water plus mild dish soap removes oils and debris without damaging coatings. Dry fully and avoid alcohol on textured plates to preserve grip.
- Keep the underside clear. Vacuum stray filament and purge curls under the printer to keep fans, heaters, and the Z belt path clean.
- Wipe the AMS entry and cutter area. Dust and shavings here turn into feeding friction and cutter drag.
- Verify bed temp and flow with a short test print. Use a single, standard G-code file per material profile to catch drift quickly.
Weekly: Lubrication and Fast Checks
- Grease the lead screws lightly. Use PTFE-safe grease and wipe away old residue so new grease doesn’t trap dust.
- Inspect belts and pulleys. Look for frayed edges, loose set screws, or pulley wobble; re-tension if you see banding.
- Check fans and filters. Make sure part cooling and aux fans spin freely and the carbon filter isn’t packed with debris.
- Run a short first-layer calibration. Confirms the plate is sitting correctly after a week of swaps.
Standardize G-code and Settings
Use shared, versioned G-code where possible so every P1S runs identical speeds, accelerations, and pressure advance. That eliminates slicer drift across operators. Keep one locked “golden” profile per material and nozzle size, and only roll changes after a test batch. For reference, bookmark the official Bambu maintenance guide so new operators understand the baseline.
Spares and Consumables to Stock
- Plenty of extra nozzles. Swap instead of wrestling a clog mid-queue; clean and refurbish nozzles off-line.
- PTFE tubes are expendable. Keep a bundle; replace at the first sign of a kink, groove, or heat scar.
- Extra plates. Rotating clean plates keeps uptime high and reduces rushed cleanings.
- AMS rollers and gears. Have a couple on hand for quick swaps when grinding shows up.
Common P1S Issues and Fast Fixes
“Can’t level the bed” or failed first-layer checks
- Clean the plate with soap and water and ensure it’s fully seated on both locating pins.
- Check for debris on the Z rods or under the bed that could tilt the plate.
- Re-run first-layer calibration using your standard G-code; avoid changing Z-offset per operator.
Nozzle clogs and intermittent under-extrusion
- Swap to a fresh nozzle immediately; diagnose the clogged one off-line.
- If you still see “filament grinding” errors, check for filament debris in the PTFE tube and AMS path.
- Verify filament diameter consistency and purge old, moisture-heavy spools.
AMS gears grinding
- Look for a bulge near the end of a spool; cut it off and reverse-feed to clear the path.
- Inspect AMS rollers/gears for chips; replace if teeth are worn.
- Keep spool drag low—clean hubs and avoid crushed cardboard flanges.
Out of filament
- Add a new roll into the same AMS slot that ran out to maintain tool mappings.
- Use consistent material labels and barcodes so operators don’t guess mid-shift.
PTFE tube develops a hole
- Treat PTFE as consumable—swap immediately and re-run a short purge.
- Check for sharp edges at couplers that may be causing abrasion.
Fleet Hygiene and Documentation
- Keep the space under and around each printer clean. Less debris means fewer false errors and smoother fan performance.
- Log issues with timestamps and G-code filenames. Pattern-matching is faster when every event ties to the exact file and slot.
- Train with one playbook. Share these steps plus your print farm management tips and automation pillar so new operators follow the same workflow.
